[ 'disappointment' isn't the word to describe it, is it?

no; Abel understands that this is a fight that many had been set up to lose before they'd even set out from the temples what feels like forever ago, now. it isn't disappointing that they had succumbed, it's unfair. the fault doesn't lie with Gen, or Amos, or Howl, or Ciel-- it lies at the feet of whoever is responsible for putting this ritual into motion. the "Regent," whoever they may be, has a great deal to answer for.

...the priest comes to a stop a safe distance from Gen to avoid invading his personal space; though it's been a few days since they'd seen one another last, there is an echo of the same familiar expression of concern in blue eyes where Abel watches the boy, attention clearly fixed on the mess of his face. ]

Why is it every time I see you, you're having a rough go of things, sir...?

[ though there's a hint of some kind of lightness in his words, Abel's expression doesn't quite match the tone. Gen might be roughed up, but he's clean, clothed properly and no longer in the throes of a sickness his body was fighting. no; he has accepted it. accepted the Kenoma.

...suppose that means he, too, is the "enemy." ]
