EVENT #1: THE EMPTY THRONE (PT 2)

The Empty Throne Pt 2
ESCAPE
As more and more of the prisoners awaken to the Pleroma's power, it soon becomes clear that conflict is inevitable. Strength that was locked away blossoms once again, and simply waiting is no longer an option; those that remain in the cavern have made their choice, and they will not be kept there so easily.

By means that may not be immediately apparent, the Pleroma have found themselves able to cast a spell that will ensure their freedom... but only if they can last the half hour it may take to complete. Whatever this power, Xishen, the Aion orchestrator of the Kenoma's ritual, seems able to sense it. As it begins, she will appear at each of the Kenoma's sides.

"The Pleroma has taken hold of them," she says. "Stop them now, or when you see them again, it will be as your mortal enemies. If you believe in the Kenoma's promise, take a stand. The Regent is watching."

For those that heed her, it will not be hard to find the congregation of Pleroma, the first seeds of their teleportation magic taking form. What's more, the fires of their hope have been stoked by this new chance at survival, granted them a surge of energy born of the Pleroma, compensating for the poor state of their bodies. The tension comes to a head, between those that would follow the Regent's path towards a better universe, and those that would seize the wild power of the Pleroma to escape.

Whatever violence ensues, eventually it will come to an end. Despite the Kenoma's efforts, the teleportation spell will come to fruition, enveloping the Pleroma in a sea of light and warmth. The Kenoma can only watch as fractals of blinding color whisk the Pleroma away.

VALLEY OF INNOCENCE
You will find yourself at the Shrine of the Innocent, surrounded by a valley of flourishing wildflowers. As you step from the shade of the monument, you will find your arrived here just in time to enjoy a warm spring spring morning, the sound of birds and gentle breezes tickling your ears. The sun slowly drifts past the horizon, its rays reaching out to you, as if in comfort. The air itself is alight with a strange aura of peace, as if committing violence here would be a sacrilege. There are no man made structures as far as your eyes can see.

Flowers of all shapes and sizes can be found here, and so can fresh water and various fruits and berries. All of them are safe to eat, and seemingly grow in abundance. There are animals here as well, all the common types one would expect from a place like Earth, with the occasional odd addition. While you can try to hunt them, you will find yourself unable to follow through on any attempts to hurt the creatures here. In turn, they regard you as familiar, and will fearlessly wander close as they inspect these new arrivals. In the distance, you may even catch sight of what appears to be a unicorn, only for its ephemeral shape to disappear from sight just as quickly.

The Pleroma will find safety and comfort here for a time, before they recover enough to travel onward. At some point during the afternoon of the first day, they may spot the occasional humanoid figure moving in the distance; when attempting to move in their direction, they will find an assortment of clothing set out across the grass as if in offering. It will come in many sizes but in mostly plain colors, fitting a general aesthetic of 'things a fantasy peasant might wear'. There will also be some blankets, wrapped cheese, jams, jerky, and bread left alongside them.

While there are trees and brush enough to find shelter, the Pleroma will find they hardly need to while resting here. The weather will be picturesque, a comfortable temperature even at night, and there will be no disruptive rain or aggressive wind. Of course, nothing lasts forever, and even though there could stay here for days, what if the Regent's forces are on their way? Once again, they must find the strength to carry on.

THE TRIWATER
As the Pleroma vanish, those claimed by the Kenoma are left in the darkness of the throne room. The Hylician soldiers are clearly agitated by the fighting, but Xishen herself seems unflustered. She will only sigh before quietly coming to the aid of any Kenoma that still need it, providing some light healing magics and explaining that their work here is over. With the Pleroma gone, all that's left to do is to return to Achamoth.

Things move quickly from there. The camp grounds are packed up, and soon enough the Kenoma will be ushered towards the river at the edge of the forest, to board a particularly large river vessel. As the Hylician soldiers prepare to go their separate ways, you will be told that you are to take the Triwater river to the capital city of Achamoth, where you will finally meet your new master, the Regent. The vessel is big enough for all of you, and it will set off the moment everyone is boarded. Suddenly, the world of entrapment and ruins you've been living in since your arrival will be left behind, leaving you to ponder the nature of your future.

The boat itself is well equipped and comfortable for what it is. A variety of colorful hammocks are hung in the lower decks and are open to be claimed for the journey back, which will take a day or two. The Kenoma will be offered a change of clothes of a similar style to what they already have if necessary, and there are plenty of blankets and cushions available to make life in the hold more comfortable. There are dice available for games of chance as well as some mystifying decks of cards that seems to have twelve suits with five cards each, themed around the Legacies. The twelfth suit is for the Regent.

Though the sailors controlling the vessel will mostly keep to themselves and leave the Kenoma alone, one of them will occasionally play harp music on the deck. Though they probably don't actually need help running the ship, they will let the Kenoma help them with chores and ship running tasks if they are so inclined; generally speaking, these sailors just seem like normal people, albeit a bit shy of their passengers. If you're polite to them, they may even gives you a river tour of Horos. On this ride alone, you'll get to see several magnificent bridges spanning the Triwater's width. At night, you are treated to a clear spring sky filled with stars.

As you make it closer to Achamoth, you'll notice the landscape shift, becoming mountainous and dotted with more and more military watch posts. The land becomes increasingly lifeless in a way that's hard to put your finger on, nature giving way to man-made creations of impressive architectural prowess. Soon, you will meet the person behind it all.

QUESTIONS
Can my Kenoma character fight against other Kenoma and/or help the Pleroma?
Yes, though if you do this you must describe what your character has done in a reply to the "Committed Actions" top-level below. This way, the mods can be aware of what happened and have your character treated accordingly. They are unlikely to receive immediate consequences if they don't hurt their fellow Kenoma, but their choices will follow them into Achamoth. If a Kenoma vs Kenoma conflict escalates into serious violence (attempted or successful) committed by the Kenoma rebel, Xishen will intervene and consequences will happen immediately which may restrict their actions until the next event post.

Can our characters leave the valley?
They can, yes, but really this event is just meant to cover the day or two they spend recovering before finding a more permanent place to go. You are free to have your character investigate the valley and probe the spaces beyond it, but please save any plans for large scale travel to the next event, which will be happening on April 2nd. The game will move into a 1:1 time ratio as of then.

Can our characters leave the boat?
Technically yes, but any Kenoma who wander too far will get in trouble. You are expected to report to the Regent, and behaving as if you are considering doing otherwise will not make an good impression.

Does the hope-based Pleroma boost last into the valley?
The boost to Pleroma characters will fade shortly after arriving in the valley, like coming down from a high. They'll have to recover the normal way from there.

( escape: wildcard. )

((ooc: I am planning on tagging out when it comes to the escape confrontation and PVP; however, if you think your character would approach Howl for something specifically and/or we end up plotting something after I'm typing this, you can tag him here!))

( 1. ) aftermath.

[ With a swell of heat and blinding light, it's over. Howl and his fellow Kenoma find themselves alone in the dark cavern with the soldiers and Xishen, suddenly now eerily quiet.

In the course of the fighting, the wizard has ended up looking not quite himself. At least two feet taller on account of the large, black, avian talons that have replaced his lower legs and feet, the monster-like body that had been swiftly moving about the cramped cavern a moment earlier is motionless. Their apparent failure is settling in, and as the seconds tick by, turns into a frustrated and despairing restlessness. He's aware of who had succumbed already and can see the glaring absences of those who escaped. It's... not good. His chest fills with dread. "Mortal enemies," the witch had said.

Howl turns and makes for the stone stairs leading back to the surface. As he walks, a trail of feathers pepper his path. He can feel eyes on him, staring, gazing — many people having good reason to look upon him with trepidation, between this distorted form he's taken and the actions he took to sabotage his confederates' efforts.
]

( 2. ) hammock.

[ Howl is impossible to find as the soldiers pack up camp, but at some point just before they depart for the river, he reappears, fully human again and dressed in the same robes he was wearing before. He is quiet and largely uninterested in speaking to anyone, especially not about what just happened, but that attitude begins to change once they board the boat to finally leave the forest.

He walks the main deck with quick footsteps, his curiosity spurring him forwards, and heads to the next deck below once he feels he's thoroughly explored it — at which point he discovers the hammocks. Are there enough for all of them? He spares a single thought for the question before concluding that it doesn't matter. He most certainly needs to lay down after everything he's been through, not to mention suffering on that damned bedroll for over two weeks now.

A hammock towards the back of the boat made from jade and pink striped cloth catches his attention. After practically collapsing into it, he closes his eyes and appreciates the slight rocking of his weight's momentum in the sling. Oh, this is good. The breeze, the water... This is worth it. How could he have ever doubted whether he was on the right side?
]

( 3. ) exercise.

[ The sun sank behind distant mountains hours ago. Energetic games of dice and cards have trickled into fewer, quieter voices, no longer needing to speak over the soldier playing his harp. Except for the sound of the water on the hull of the vessel, the night is largely quiet. Howl has waited until this late hour to get out of his hammock — hoping nobody takes it while he is gone and that he can find some privacy for a particular task he'd spent the last two weeks wishing for a chance to do.

On the uppermost deck of the ship beneath the ceiling of stars, Howl stretches his wings, this time in a more metaphorical sense. The clash in the chamber made it clear that some portion of his power has returned to him, but he hasn't had a moment to himself yet to find out how much is still missing. Believing himself to be alone, he goes through his mental repertoire of spells, one school of magic at a time. To his relief, some of the most elementary spells have at least started returning to him, even if they're taking much more effort than normal: manifesting a flame above his fingertip, mending the fraying edges of his robe, lifting small balls of water from the river below. It would be rather embarrassing if he could not do these things anymore, he thinks to himself, so it's a relief he can still call himself a Wizard without feeling like a liar.

It's apparent to anyone watching, however, that Howl grows frustrated as the exercises continue. Sometimes the movements of his hands seem to do nothing at all, even after multiple attempts, leaving him to simmer. He hates this. He really is powerless here, maybe not entirely but definitely in comparison to how he should be, and he finds himself thinking of Calcifer all over again, of Sophie and Markl, of his castle and his world and everything else that's gone now.

A thought occurs to him: maybe he ought to just leave. He could do it, seeing as his primary transformation still works. His wings had come to him when needed. True, he hadn't flown down in the cramped chamber, but out here, with the endlessly open night sky above him, it should be easy to simply... fly away.

The wizard stares up at the stars, his arms and hands going still at his sides. He's seriously thinking about it, as that numb Kenoma emptiness reenters his mind.

Hello mods, a couple of questions—

- If a Kenoma "borrowed" a few weapons during the PvP/escape part of the log, would they be expected to give them back afterwards or would they be allowed to hang onto them for the time being?

- ICly, Eustace would approach the sailors and ask them what their feelings are towards the Regent, mostly to get a feel for the political/social atmosphere they're heading towards. More specifically (but not related to the Regent), he'd ask if they had any maps, either of Achamoth or a general world map, so he could start familiarizing himself with the area. Additionally, he'd probably ask them about the star system and if there are any notable constellations to keep an eye out for (for the purposes of navigation and the like). He'll be asking politely (for once in his life) and also volunteering to help with general chores afterwards as thanks.

SORRY FOR THE LENGTHY PARAGRAPH tl;dr he's mostly interested in general information to orient himself with.

[personal profile] coerthantorment 2022-03-18 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He's been waiting for this moment.

He knew from the moment that wretched filth was expelled from his body - his strength was returning, along with something fierce and new. After weeks of helplessness and torment, he has something resembling power again, and even without his armor and his lance, the urge to make use of it is overwhelming. Nidhogg roars in his ears with a clarity that has been missing and he can feel the aether ripple through his body, like the roar of a beast that's just been set free.

The worst of the spikes that have been devastating his body recede, seemingly in response to him taking control. Yet, the claws, fangs, and slitted draconic eyes remain. This is him, after all. This is the him that was being bound until this moment, leaving him beaten and humiliated. He will suffer it no longer.

He paces the edges of where his fellow prisoners are gathered, working on whatever spell Father Abel has spoken of. He knows his role in this - he will burn whatever strength he has to keep those wretches away from them, long enough for freedom to be secured. Though the natural hope would be for them to not be confronted at all, he itches will the desire for vengeance and blood. This means that as soon as a Kenoma follower dares show their face, dares threaten the people here in any way, he'll be ready to strike.

"Leave now or face the flames of retribution," he snarls, and it's the last warning that you will receive.

â–º THE PVP ESCAPE PART

[ He's fed and armed now as he heads back into the cavern, the worst of the grime washed off his body and his ragged gown replaced by clean, durable clothes. There are faces he recognizes still stubbornly staying behind, all congregated together in their attempt to escape.

In each hand is a dagger, their unfamiliar weight still a relief in the face of what he's about to do next. He keeps his face impassive as he approaches the group, voice level as he calls out to the closest one. ]

I can't let you leave.

[ He sounds almost apologetic about it, a thin thread of resignation running through his voice. He doesn't dislike any of the faces he recognizes, not to the point of actively wishing them ill. But unfortunately orders are orders, and if there's anything he's always excelled at, it's following orders.

The Regent is watching, and he's not ready just yet to risk incurring their wrath. ]

â–º THE HURT/COMFORT PART

[ There's not much time between the last Pleroma winking out of existence and the order that they (the Kenoma) pack up and leave. Easier said than done considering his current condition: battered and bruised, blood streaked across his clothes and face. It's been a long time since he's gotten himself into this bad a shape, and there's an obvious grimace on his face as he leans against the cavern wall and does a mental check of all his injuries.

From there, it's not too difficult to procure a few makeshift bandages and find himself a bit of flat stone to sit one and attend to his injuries. Given the state he's in though, it's a slower process than it should be.

Feeling charitable enough to lend a hand? For once, he won't bite it off. ]

â–º THE 'WE'RE ON A BOAT' PART

[ They're on a boat.

But instead of soaring through the sky like he's used to, they're sailing through calm waters as the ruins recede behind them. He wonders briefly if he'll ever feel the wind roaring past his ears as clouds pass him by, then dismisses the thought. No point in being sentimental about bygones; there's only the path forward now.

He spends most of the trip off in whatever solitary corner of the ship he can find abovedeck, gazing up at the skies both during the day and at night trying to commit the unfamiliar constellations in the sky to memory, returning below decks only to sleep.

Hopefully any hammock buddies nearby aren't too noisy, otherwise he will tell them to shut up. :/ ]

â–º WILDCARD

[ For anything else I didn't include. Shoot me a PM, ping me on Discord, holler at me on my plotting comment, heck just write your own starter and I'll roll with it. o7 ]

[ Now this is an unwelcome surprise. That there would be attempts to stop them from leaving once they found a way out doesn't surprise Ernesto at all, but that they would be levying their fellow former prisoners was an unpleasant twist in it all.

That Ernesto recognizes the face of someone staring him down while holding a weapon now? Even worse. It's one thing to deal with the new Kenomas who aren't interested in combat, or the ones that he doesn't personally know, but even if Eustace had refused to pass on his name, he'd still offered Ernesto a little bit of help when he'd been feeling particularly low. He doesn't seem like a bad guy, but...

Ernesto's smile is tense as he eyes the daggers in Eustace's hands. He definitely doesn't know him well enough to say if he'll actually use them or not.
]

You could if you gave it a go. Honestly, letting us go would be easier than trying to stop us.

[ The smile pulls wider with his joke, though it doesn't look any less tense for it. ]

[personal profile] devilmancrybaby 2022-03-19 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Of course Luo Binghe shows up. He wants to be thought well of here, after all -- and while his dedication to doing what he's told is shallow at first, when he sees that this guy is prowling around looking for a fight, he's fully on board.

It's clear Estinien's strength has returned to him, and that makes Luo Binghe more eager to face him. He stalks towards him, demonic energy making the air around him ripple like a heatwave. He's gotten a sword off one of the guards, and while it's a very long way off from Xin Mo, its weight feels good in his hand.

"I'm not going anywhere. Go on. Show me."
coerthantorment: (105)

[personal profile] coerthantorment 2022-03-19 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Estinien eyes the sword, knowing that it will be a complication - after all, without his own weapon, blocking such a weapon will be more difficult. He's not about to let that stop him, though... now with Binghe's smug face bringing back dark thoughts of how helpless he'd felt the last time the two of them clashed. With Binghe's foot on his chest, he'd been powerless to free himself.

Not anymore.

Estinien sets into his stance, fury in his gut, twists of draconic aether spiraling around him to match Binghe's demonic aura. Justice was at hand.

"ROAR NIDHOGG, ROAR!"

He bellows the words, and from within him, an ancient and thunderous voice answers in turn. The sound of it spreads like a shockwave, enough to kick up dust and rubble. Binghe will feel the effects of it in his head twofold - both the sound and the psychic force behind it hitting at once. In his own world, it could have easily taken down an ordinary man.

Around him, the draconic energy swells into the ghostly visage of a winding serpent.

Hi mods! A couple of IC NPC interactions I wanted to pursue, if they work out...

1. During the PvP portion, Amos is going to be standing back, not really doing much. (He might be seen interacting with some of the Pleroma but while he isn't doing anything to try to stop them, he isn't trying to help them, either. Very neutral.)

He will, however, respond to Xishen, if she's available, with a couple of things:

- He'd tell her that when he came back down into the cavern after his own acceptance, he talked to a number of people who were steadfast about refusing the Kenoma. He thinks it'd be fucked up to force it on them anyway, and will say as much; he also doesn't seem too bothered about the idea that those who escape would become his mortal enemies. That's a later problem.
- He'd point out that she doesn't really seem to be doing anything to stop them, either — basically asking her without actually asking why she isn't.

2. More just a thing to note, but while on the boat, Amos will be helping out, and depending on the task he either knows what he's doing or is a quick study. If anyone asks he'll just say it feels weird to be on a ship without actually working. Basically just vibing and acting like he's the sailors' equal.

1. Amos respects that she's busy and won't argue his points further (the whole "don't force it on them" thing is non-negotiable for him, anyway, so that tinges how he sees her now, for however much that introspection is worth).

He's pretty indifferent to her first response, but the second will make him pause, though he still won't commit (see: the whole non-negotiable stance). Just a little seedling of doubt he'll ignore until it's relevant again.

2. Aww. He totally gets just wanting to get through the day and is unlikely to pick up on that edge of anxiety in any way that matters (i.e. if expressed towards him he may stop with a blank look before shrugging and going back to what he's doing — it's the kind of thing he's used to, albeit he doesn't really know why that's happening here).

(And thank you for these!)

"Oh ho~! Well, I'm rooting for you, Estinien. Don't be a disappointment," comes Childe's sing-song voice echoing a bit in the throne room, and he's standing a distance away, but gives a cheeky wave.

Really, he is absolutely rooting for him— he wants to see what the guy who he seems to share some common things with has to offer. It's just a guess on his part, however, but he imagines clashing with Estinien, even injured, would take a majority of the time they have until that spell completes. That would leave less time to fight with everyone else, so he's going to let everyone else deal with Estinien. If he's still standing towards the end, maybe Childe will engage him, then.

"I'm afraid I'm going to have to go over you, though, to find myself an opponent. I hope you don't mind—since you simply can't protect everyone here."

Hello hello, mods! Here's what I have so far for Matt:

  • Taking some noticeable actions to hinder Kenomas trying to prevent Pleroma escape, including detaining Silco in a magic shield bubble and trying to explain that you catch more Kenoma with honey than vinegar. Seems like Silco will tell on Matt even if the event isn't immediately noticed by NPCs.

  • Potentially observable supporting Abel pre-teleportation spell.

  • Trying to steal Childe's weapon and immediately getting stomped.

(let's get) a little bit dirty

You all aren't very good at being discreet about your intentions, are you? Don't you think you could have done all this a little more quietly?

[ Surely they could have been more stealthy about their rebellion considering they've been all crawling around sick and useless the last week in this place? Childe approaches Dextera first, not because he's the most aggressive but because he's curious about what he can do. He already has a good idea on the loudest one that the Pleroma have to offer (Estinien,) and it seems like it would be a shame to clash with him here if only because it might actually limit the amount of fights he gets. Besides, with Estinien making a huge ruckus, he's already basically the main focus of the fighting Kenoma, so Childe has bypassed him with Luo Binghe distracting him in favor of another.

For better or for worse, it seems Dextera has been chosen.
    ]

How about we play some? A good show is most important to the audience.

[ Childe does have a weapon on him—a bow entirely made of flowing yet tightly constricted water with an equally designed arrow. His laugh is airy and almost innocent, as if they're about to play a harmless game. Instead of aim directly at Dextera, though, he aims upward, letting the arrow shoot above them— Dextera will notice a strange blue light encircle him at his feet —which will not follow him should he move out of it.

Moving out of it or doing something else would be advised, regardless, because, should he fail to do so, he's going to get struck not with an actual arrow so much as a (literal) piercing rain all within that circular area. It is actual water, for what it's worth, but Childe can make water slap and pierce with ease.
    ]

Be quick on your actions, friend. Make this fun for me if not yourself!

(let's get) a little bit nasty

"Well, well, it looks like you're next," comes a voice from not far off as Childe advances towards her. He's a little bit more worked up than he anticipated along with his clothes a tad singed from magic energy (moreso than literal fire,) but Childe doesn't seem deterred. In fact, he seems quite delighted by the turn of events despite initially groaning over the fact he was ordered to stop these people.

Unlike with Dextera, Childe approaches Moiraine with dual water blades in his hands, having had to switch to melee. He doubts she's any easier than him, so there's no point going back to bow and arrow unless for strategic purposes. Which, until she shows him what she can or can't do, is unknown.

"I could ask you to step aside so I can get to Father Nightroad, but you seem like the kind of lady that isn't going to take to anyone's demands." Childe speaks casually, half to himself as much as he is talking directly to her. "I'm all wound up now, though. So, unless you plan to put up a good fight, I'm going to suggest you bow out of my way, regardless."

Does he think he's being polite by offering her the chance to scram? No, at all. He wouldn't offer her the opportunity if he actually thought she might take him up on it. Childe's not here to get through to Abel at all.

—And he'll be absolutely disappointed if he makes it that far.

    { PVP } yoo joonghyuk

    [personal profile] vapour 2022-03-19 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
(let's get) a little bit gross

[ Moiraine was impressively tough for someone who had no desire to actually fight offensively, and her awakened abilities proved just as fascinating as Estinien's and Dextera's.

Childe can't help himself now; he needs to see what as many Pleroma-aligned as possible are capable of right now, which means he can't really go all out in any one fight or he might miss someone interesting! After all, if they all manage to escape, this means he'll get to fight all of them in the future, too. What a promising outlook in this place that was not even an hour ago looking quite bleak and boring.

Anyway, he's looking for someone (anyone, even) that looks ready to attack first and talk later. Joonghyuk fits the bill rather well on top of being in the way of getting to the casters (that Childe still has very little interest in interrupting, but the Pleroma themselves don't need to know that!) His hydro blades remain in his hands as he stalks towards the Pleroma.

'Gonna have to ask you move it. [ get out of his way— or don't, he hopes the other doesn't because then there would be no fun. Childe looks delighted by the prospect— and while it's clear he's been in some fights already, the look in his eyes and the way he holds himself says he's just getting started (in a really innocently awkward child-like way. no true crazy here yet— if you ignore looking like a kid ready to go play with their puppy over getting violent with others as acceptable, anyway.) ]

Estinien growls, his slitted eyes settling on Childe. Evidently, he doesn't appreciate his tone. Childe does have a point - there are more people here than Estinien has time to deal with alone, but that won't stop him from trying.

"Arrogant cur!" he hisses, and in the next moment he's already in the air, aiming a spine shatter dive aimed at Childe's location. Sadly, without his lance, he has to focus the strike on his feet instead of his weapon, but it will still kick up rubble when he does so.
