Unsurprising that this encounter is where Emet-Selch's good fortune starts petering off. Belonging to one of those vulnerable legacies and inherently weak to the allure of stagnation, Gen makes for a dangerously powerful carrier of that illness, and that contact with his hand would have been more than enough chance for the Innocence to begin sinking its claws into Emet-Selch.
Not at all helped by when Gen also reaches forth with a puzzled tilt of the head.
"... dad?" In the end, he can't quite shake off those delusions, memories of the life he'd left behind too closely intertwined with his current perception of reality. And while he hasn't called to his father in such a familiar fashion in years, it only feels natural when a spike of concern prickles at his chest upon seeing his 'father' before him looking vaguely distressed. "What's wrong?"
It's a purely well-meaning and innocent gesture when he makes to touch Emet-Selch's forearm, to make sure the other is alright ... though that voice whispering in his ear to grant peace to everyone else certainly offers extra incentive for him to make that move.
