It's a eerie feeling to be at the Firebrand shrine and see no crystals harboring a rebirthing aion, Childe realizes. With so many of them having arrived together here as part of the legacy and then a continued stream of aions appearing last time, to see the shrine look extraordinarily dormant is somehow unsettling.

He imagines it's not actually unusual, but this is the first shrine he's wandered to that he's witnessed as so quiet. The Harbinger has spent some time inside since arriving, moving about to closely examine the crystals to see if any hints revealing one or more as a cocoon show through, but they're all empty.

After doing this twice, he considers what to report to Xishen before alerting her that there are no crystals housing an entity of any kind, and that he can come back later, even as he wonders if it's possible for anyone to show up here still if not already visible in some manner.

Of course, despite how quiet in the shrine it is, it hasn't been particularly quiet outside: he's heard the scuffling of a skirmish beginning not long after he entered, but what the troops on either side do simply isn't his problem unless they get in his way. He's not their commander and therefore he has no obligation or responsibility to them like he did to his troops back home.

Even that, though, has finally started to fade, probably because the search for new aions is drawing to a close. Another look reaffirms there are no fresh crystals shattered on the cavern ground (at least not within the past twenty-four hours,) so he knows anyone who came before him didn't wander off with any newcomers. Once finished reporting to Xishen, Childe sighs audibly, giving one last look around the cave as if in nostalgia (and what shitty nostalgia it is, considering what the first wave of aions had to deal with.)

He's tired of this recruitment garbage. He can't wait until they're done this wave.

Estinien arrives, and not for the first time during this cycle. He's always felt it was his responsibility to watch over this shrine in particular, knowing that the Kenoma had more Firebrands than the PLeroma. Even as it draws to a close, he feels the need to check one last time.

It turns out he wasn't the only one with that thought, however. As he lands at the mouth of the cavern, he sees that familiar spot of orange hair. He'd been caught off guard the last time they fought, but he refuses to be startled again.

Estinien himself is shining white from head to toe, with six sets of feathery wings alongside side the scales and horns of his dragon transformation. The light from him may even radiate into the cave for a moment before he charges.

He dives straight forward, hoping to catch Childe off guard and crush him against the back wall of the cavern. There's no time for words. Not after what's been done.

It's fortunate that one of a dragoon's most lifesaving skills is that of recovery - after all, as a melee combatant fighting something as deadly as dragons, if your first blow didn't kill your quarry the next best option was to create distance.

He isn't unprepared when he attacks Childe. Half expecting a dodge, he is ready to touch his feet to the wall as he collides with it, using the leverage to leap again. He propels himself out of the cave as quickly as he arrived in a flurry of light and wings.

He turns just in time to avoid the brush of the arrow, the wave crashing behind him as he slips back out of the mouth of the cave. He spirals upwards over the river canyon as the water cascades past him and into the crevasse below. His eyes are already watching for any signs of Childe exiting, preparing to strike again.
