pain .
It's a eerie feeling to be at the Firebrand shrine and see no crystals harboring a rebirthing aion, Childe realizes. With so many of them having arrived together here as part of the legacy and then a continued stream of aions appearing last time, to see the shrine look extraordinarily dormant is somehow unsettling.
He imagines it's not actually unusual, but this is the first shrine he's wandered to that he's witnessed as so quiet. The Harbinger has spent some time inside since arriving, moving about to closely examine the crystals to see if any hints revealing one or more as a cocoon show through, but they're all empty.
After doing this twice, he considers what to report to Xishen before alerting her that there are no crystals housing an entity of any kind, and that he can come back later, even as he wonders if it's possible for anyone to show up here still if not already visible in some manner.
Of course, despite how quiet in the shrine it is, it hasn't been particularly quiet outside: he's heard the scuffling of a skirmish beginning not long after he entered, but what the troops on either side do simply isn't his problem unless they get in his way. He's not their commander and therefore he has no obligation or responsibility to them like he did to his troops back home.
Even that, though, has finally started to fade, probably because the search for new aions is drawing to a close. Another look reaffirms there are no fresh crystals shattered on the cavern ground (at least not within the past twenty-four hours,) so he knows anyone who came before him didn't wander off with any newcomers. Once finished reporting to Xishen, Childe sighs audibly, giving one last look around the cave as if in nostalgia (and what shitty nostalgia it is, considering what the first wave of aions had to deal with.)
He's tired of this recruitment garbage. He can't wait until they're done this wave.

no subject
Regardless of whom the 'creature' could be, the Kenoma aion doubts they arrived, attacked, and then truly fled; which means he's most likely going to be ambushed in some way as soon as he exits the cave.
It is only a brief moment of pause before he breathes out the rest of the air in his lungs through his nostrils in begrudging acknowledgment.
With no other option but to hang out indefinitely in the cave (and ain't nobody got time for that,) Childe walks to the entrance and outside without hesitation. His eyes and senses are sharp and alert while critical of everything, but he knows quite well all he can do currently is react.
He won't stand outside the cave but rather keep walking as if none the wiser. Afterall, if whatever that is wants to ambush him somewhere further away from the Shrine, it'd be impolite to keep them waiting.
