[ A small word in mage tongue has the earth flung her way burst into powder before her. Akua is used to war, and large scale invasions. Her magics and manipulations were so often more a factor of grand schemes, not these small fights -- it's what had led to her defeat so many times. Where Catherine had always been in the mud, fighting personally, Akua had often opted for the opposite, and had been rewarded. Here she had no choice -- her magics would not even weave the grand and major spells she tried to cast -- but that was fine. She could do without. At least in this small-scale fight.
After all, she would have to continue to fight like this -- and as they so often said where she was from -- iron sharpens iron. She was nothing, if not lucky, to fight a foe like this Farense.
The shadows that crept up are cold, and dark. Akua's lips split into a sharp, dark smile at that. ]
I'm afraid Howl caught me when I was feeling a touch...prideful. I think you'll be...surprised by me each time.
[ She had, after all, inhabited the body of the Duchess of the Moonless Nights, and had spread the magic of the Winter Court -- that sharp, brittle, cold magic. She had been within the Mantle when the Two-faced god of the Drow drew that magic to themselves, and had even manipulated Night, when it had been joined with something so chill.
Akua had been raised in a land of warmth, but cold? Cold and dark was what she had lived and breathed for ages when she'd been trapped in that Mantle. Catherine had become colder and colder, and Akua had been pulled out from maddening boredom into cold. Her smile split, and her hands spread, like puppeteer's fingers, as she let the magics spill from her fingers, a subtle twist of manipulation.
She had taken Catherine's night -- freely given, yes -- but that didn't mean she didn't know how to use it.
She drew that darkness to her leg, and let the magic, the signature and flavor of it wash over her. As Sebastian freed his leg, Akua felt the power of it, and the Trismegistan computations flowed through her mind, as she altered a spell for this one, it wouldn't rid herself of it this time, but it would provide a surprise, the next time this Farense used his magic.
As for this -- these shadows -- she has no way to dispel them, she doesn't possess Light, but she knows what Night is, and how it works. She can smother shadows with more than simply Light -- and she lets herself become encircled in a wall of hellfire a hot, bright fire, to combat the shadows, but it would not burn her -- the caster. ]
