waking up from a dirt nap
Amos had felt a sense of peace as he'd died, as he'd felt everything fuelling him well past the point he should've still been alive leave him. Or, not leave him. More like retreat. Fade into the background. It's still in him now, he knows. He can identify it. In a way, it's always been there; just that it had never been that intense.
And he's going to have to learn to live with that. Not on an emotional level — a little bit of puzzling over it, and he's accepted it — but on a practical level. So he doesn't spin out of control and start trying to kill everyone he cares about again.
He sucks in a breath, exhalation loud as he looks around the room he's found himself in. Very little light, dirt under his bare feet. The kind of chill that comes from being somewhere empty with air hitting all of your exposed skin. The remnants of the chrysalis he's already smashed his way out of.
He wanders back to it, as though it has any answers (it doesn't). Rests a hand against a part of it that's still intact, growing up from the ground.
Lifts his head at the sound of footsteps, of other people coming down to the room.
Amos is different now, physically. He knows that; Matt told him. He saw his greyed skin with the light he'd produced. Still doesn't know what's different about his eyes; has no clue that the sclera's now black, that there's a faint glow visible from his still-blue irises in the darkness. Everything still looks normal to him. Feels normal, except...
He offers a small, tentative smile when he sees who's come in. Takes his hand off of the spike of crystal in an awkward little wave. He'd felt their emotions when he'd been nothing more than a rock, them bleeding into his own as he'd grappled with the uncomfortable sensation of being held along with the small sense of relief as to who was holding him. He'd hurt them. Physically, emotionally. He knows that. But that's not him now, that's not something he's going to do here, and the fact that they're down here now... maybe it's okay?
A small flicker of hope. ]
Hey.
no subject
But she doesn't have faith he'll come back the same.
What if the ailment was permanent? What if Amos lashes out again, or randomly loses control when they're not expecting it? They never did find out what had caused it all to happen. Will they go down to the depths, only to land themselves in the same nightmare-ish scenario they'd barely escaped the first time? The lingering horror from the event, along with the tell-tale mark of her still existing injuries (most notably, her stiff, cast-wrapped right arm) keeps her majorly apprehensive about going down to check on him — alone, at least.
That's why when she and Kaeya actually do make an appearance, she makes a point of keeping close to him, hugging his arm as close as he'll let her - very close to the image and behavior of someone apprehensive of going into a haunted house. Even when they actually lay eyes on him - Amos is alive - that apprehension doesn't disappear, and neither does her clinging lessen. Her steps down the stairs still bear resistance, like she's actively trying to slow Kaeya down from getting too deep into the basement. But all that suspicion is accompanied by unbridled relief - something she can't restrain. ]
Ugh, I don't like this...
[ She whispers to Kaeya, first, when they're at the top of the stairs. Her eyes stay pinned to Amos's form as they descend, searching out his identity for herself with her name revealing eyes. He looks so weird, she almost says, before Amos actually says something to them, which means he's... alive. He's there again. Able to respond and think and feel something that isn't all-consuming rage. Misa's heart clenches, concern and worry and anguish and hurt all mixing into a strange, unintelligible feeling without a name, spilling out from the interior of her heart. Her grip around Kaeya shifts as the pair make it to the bottom step of the stairs, loosening enough to let him pull free, if that's what he wishes - though she certainly won't complain about keeping him nearby. ]
Amos... [ She responds, still watching him carefully, as if she's expecting the other shoe to drop any minute. ] You're really... okay?
[ Physically? Mentally— is he truly back to his normal self? It's hard to tell from just a single word, so she remains nervous, almost awkwardly lagging near the bottom of the stairs. ]
